DIY TUTTI FRUTTI
My little chestnuts,
I hope you're well and that you've taken good care of yourself this weekend, basking in the sun... It was so good, wasn't it? I'm back to continue this Carmen Miranda special week. I'd have liked to teach you how to make a head band with real fruit, but the truth is, taking the bus with a cornucopia on your head isn't easy... Unless you want to look like a madwoman. One day I'll tell you all about my most daring outings, which combine a sharp, sophisticated look with uncontrolled sartorial slip-ups, a sort of Kamoulox of looks. I mean, that deserves an article of its own. So for this Do IT Yourself Carmen Miranda, it wasn't easy. I wanted something simple, because after the panties of last week, I didn't want to lose the beginners along the way... So today I'm giving you my pair of fruity earrings. Easy Peasy enjoy!
For this DIY:
- - Time: 30min approx.
- - Cost: 20€ with all materials (clips not included)
- - Difficulty: fingers in the nose.
For this DIY you need :
- - earrings
- - Embroidery thread
- - Resin berries
- - Cutting pliers
- - Round-nose pliers
- - A pair of scissors
- - Small rings
- - Metal rods
- - Seed beads.
For the berries, I found them in Paris in a boutique on rue du temple called JACKY PERLES (you can't make up a name like that). But I did a little digging on the internets and you can find similar ones. hereor here.
First, we're going to learn how to make these little thread pompons, which I'm sure will adorn all your creations. Take 70cm of embroidery thread.
Fold the thread in half, then in half again, repeating the operation until the whole is less than 5cm long. Then take a small ring and thread the thread through it.
Place the ring in the middle of your small pile of thread, and cut about 10cm of embroidery thread.
Fold your little thread pack in half around the ring, and use the extra 10cm of thread to secure everything: make a few twists and knots.
Grab your scissors and cut the loops to obtain your pompom, freshening up the cut a little to get it just right.
Repeat the operation as many times as you want (you'll see how quickly you'll get the hang of it). And now for the fruit!
Take a fruit bead, a seed bead and a stem. Thread the seed bead onto the stem, then the fruit bead.
Wrap the stem around itself to form a small ring and repeat the steps for the other fruits.
Thread your fruit and pompons onto your rings as you wish. We've made two different earrings to make it even more tutti-frutti!
and TA-DA!
