DIY BOX SEPHORA
Hello kittens!
A week without posting is a sin! I can't hide the fact that things are crazy at the moment. With the launch of the new collection on Sunday and the preparation of vacation content, we're on all fronts! Today, I'm sharing with you an ultra-simple DIY created for the Sephora "Nail Art" Workshop, because we've taken the work out of your hands! It's a box made of featherboard and sewing pins in which you can store all your manicure utensils. It could even become your toolbox if you imagine it in a different format, or a box for your jewelry and other DIY supplies... Go wild!
Choose the most beautiful pattern to cover your box - we've obviously used one of our prints, but it's up to you to imagine the craziest combinations - and above all, choose a fairly fine material, easily malleable under the heat of your iron.
For this DIY you'll need :
- featherboard,
- patterns to download here and here (please note that the second file must be printed in A3 format)
- a good scalpel,
- sewing pins,
- spray adhesive
- a pen erasable ink pen,
- green glue,
- scissors,
- fabric, in this case our poplin dots !
- colored paper.
To begin, cut out all the pieces of featherboard (make sure your scalpel blade is perpendicular to your featherboard, for a cleaner result) and cut out the paper too. For the fabric, trace the pattern on your fabric using your super erasable pen (leave a good two centimetres extra to facilitate the gluing stage).
Cut out your fabric and run an iron over it to erase your pen marks (magic, we tell you!), but be sure to keep the marks at the corners of the pattern as reference points. Now let's start assembling the central compartment of the box. Please refer to the diagram on the pattern!
To secure the box, use sewing pins to stick into the edge of the featherboard. Insert a pin every 4cm or so.
Now you've got the center of your box! Grab your glue and dot the bottom.
Place your paper square at the bottom. Now let's move on to the dividers! Assemble the two dividers using the half-slots!
Slide your dividers into the box and place the unslotted divider on the end of the other two! Pin them in place.
Your main compartment is now ready! Now for the two small flaps!
Pin as shown. The rounded part goes at the end of the slices of the two rectangles.
TA-dA number 1! Now grab your scissors and notch all the corners around the rounded parts up to the marks.
Once you've made all your notches (8 in all), iron the seam value on the side of your box, doing the same on both sides.
Take your spray glue, and glue the bottom of the box to the fabric, using your folded seam value as a guide.
Continuing with the flaps, attach the shorter part of the flap to the fabric using the spray glue. You should have around 0.5cm of fabric between the flaps and the featherboard center part, which will allow you to close your box easily.
Now cut away the excess fabric formed by the two right-angled corners on either side of the flap. Apply spray glue to the side and attach the fabric, leaving the excess to show through.
Green glue the fabric back! Cut away the excess fabric covering the rest of the flap, leaving a small centimetre. Apply glue to this area.
Fold the fabric over the value to secure it, then do the same on the other side. Finally, fix the fabric with spray glue and finish by gluing the excess at the top with green glue.
For the rounded part, spread glue over the whole and fold your fabric, which will naturally make pretty pleats on the curve! Last step: fold your pieces of paper!
Glue all sides and place in your flaps!
Press well to ensure that the paper is secure, and especially in the corner to check that it's correctly positioned in the edge! And Ta-Da, all that's left to do is fill your wonder!
