DIY BUN WITH BABY HAIR
Happy Monday, my little cats!
I'm warning you at the start of this week that it's not going to be very glamorous... But sometimes in life, you have to cheat a little. As you know, since January, I've been going short, so there's no need for me to go all boyish on you! Maï but not far from it. I really loved it, but my hair grows very fast (but not the way I'd like it to) and having to make little puppy-dog eyes to get my hair to grow out is a real problem. Fred to look after my head every 15 days was starting to get complicated, but what can I say, he's an exclusive man and a polygamous hair relationship is out of the question... So, since June, I've decided to let my hair grow. But I've got stupid hair. It doesn't grow very fast in length, but in thickness. I've got them everywhere, and I'm sure I could start a collection of blush brushes because I've got so many. In short, it's growing back, any way you look at it. I've discovered that I've got 2 spikes on my forehead, so I can't get a fringe and look like a crazy horse. If I get bangs right now, I risk looking like the hidden child of Mireille Mathieu and de-M-...
But for once, I've started making a little bun with clip-in extensions I've had lying around. At first, it was with very cheap extensions I'd found in a supermarket, not really the same color as my hair and then totally synthetic, so I had very shiny "plastic" strands... Obviously, I'm not a hairdresser and I'm impervious to hair tutorials that last more than 3 minutes 20, and I put them in any way I could, so I had the base of the extensions in the nape of my neck like a doll's wig. But then Fred explained the process to me, I thought it would be a pain to do it the right way, so I fiddled around and today I'm offering you this hair tutorial to save your life during the re-growth period, but which is anything but academic!
You'll need hair extensions in the same color as your head (it's better that way), 2 or 3 small strands, pins, clips, an elastic band and a small, pointed comb.
Start by untangling your mane, and using the comb, part your hair high up on the back of your head. Clip your first extension onto this parting. So far, so good. Take your comb and form another parting 3 cm below your first extension. Place your real hair on the base of the extension and clip on your second strip of false hair. And repeat the operation if, like me, you have horsehair on your head. But don't attach the last strip to the back of your neck, but about 2 cm before it, so that your little hair covers the slightly creepy base of your extension. Using the hair clips and pins, start covering the extensions with the longer strands on the sides and tie your hair into a high bun. Finish by wrapping a strand around the elastic band, and polish off the final look with a few extra clips. And don't forget to pull out some baby hair on your forehead to make it look more natural... Yes, I said natural!
On the practical side, fake/real hair comes at a price, but imagine the savings you'll make because you won't have to go to the hairdresser. Maï told me about a new brand of high-quality synthetic extensions Hersheson available at Sephora... Hooray! And with the same principle, remember this romantic banana chignon tuto !
