Hello my little cats!

We're back with the already famous and sweet Lolita! As I told you in the previous article, I'm proud to announce that we've worked with Singer a great contest! In fact, hidden in 1 of our 250 sewing patterns is a golden ticket that will enable you to win a retro-looking sewing machine, the Singer One Plus, worth 849.50 euros! Can you believe it? I still can't get over it, and I'm as excited as a lark to help you win such madness!

I won't hide the fact that the pattern for this dress is more "complex" than we're used to here, but you don't need to be crazy either, just patient. Patience, yes, because there's a little cotton lining. It's a very close-fitting dress, so you'll have to learn with us how to fit an invisible zip. I was a little apprehensive myself - how can anyone be afraid of a zip? And with the advice of my sweet Laure, everything went smoothly, even better than smoothly: "finger in the nose"... I'll let you watch the video and see that nothing is insurmountable!

Here are a few things to know about this dress:

  • - You'll need 3m of fabric, in a 1m45-width fabric (not less wide, otherwise it won't be loose enough).
  • - 1 invisible dress zipper (usually 35cm)
  • - 1m lining

- In the booklet, exceptionally, you'll find explanations on how to adapt your pattern to your measurements.

- You asked me what fabric I used for my Lolita, so for the white and navy blue it's a beautiful mercerized cotton satin, the "beurre frais" yellow version is a slightly thick cotton gabardine and the yellow and white striped parasol-style fabric is a neoprene-coated canvas from the Jacquemus collection. All these fabrics were purchased at the boutique les Etoffes du Sentier, rue des jeuneurs in Paris.

- I wore a tulle underskirt under the navy blue dress. If you'd like your dress to have more amplitude, I recommend a long rehearsal tutu. Repetto

And once I'd gone through the dresses, I felt there was a little something missing, so I suggested to Laure that we add little bows on the shoulders of our Titanic Bateau neckline... We give you the bonus DIY of these perfect bows!

  • - download the knot pattern here
  • - a 30cm strip of fabric

Cut the fabric as shown on the pattern. You'll have 4 pieces for the 2 bows and 4 pieces for the 2 loops. Overlap 2 pieces to make the first bow, and pin the sides together.

Stitch three of the four sides to leave an opening. Clip the corners, but not too tightly.

With your hand inside the unclosed side, turn the fabric inside out. Use the tip of the scissors to shape the corners, then iron.

On the open side, fold in the seam allowance (1cm), then close the opening with a pretty invisible hand stitch.

Let's move on to the loop. Pin the 2 larger sides together and stitch. Turn over and iron.

Form the loop by tucking one free edge into the other. By hand, make a few zigzag stitches, as for a corset lace. Slide the bow rectangle into the loop.

Pull on the sides to make a pretty bow. Place on the shoulder seam of the dress.

Stitch the center of the bow loop with the dress, as well as the 4 corners of the bow. Do the same for the second knot. And TA-DA! Nice result, isn't it?
