I must warn you, you must be over 18 to read this article, and I must remind you that you must consume alcohol in moderation! Mom's minute over, I have to tell you about Scott S. I met this gentleman in another life, not so long ago in fact, but he's one of those people who always keeps an eye on you and looks on you with a constantly benevolent gaze, a friend in short... At the time, he was manager of Ufo ( 49 rue Jean Pierre Timbaud 75011 ) and I needed to make ends meet, so Scott took me under his big tattooed wing, and taught me the secrets of the beer taffy and other tricks for making perfect mojitos... Amen. Scott's the kind of guy who, when you invite him to brunch, always comes with flowers, a chicken and a bottle. He's a class act... In fact, he's the one who gave me my worst nickname: "Ma petite cocotte minute chérie d'amour des îles"... Yeah, right, with his American accent...
At the age of 5, Scott was already selling lemonade on the sidewalk in his little German village, then grew up in San Francisco, Oakland and Las Vegas, before moving to the capital in 1998. Since then, he's cut his teeth in some very fine places, including the Red House, UFO and Silencio, and on February 26 he inaugurated his first establishment with the creators of UFO, Kremlin and Rock and Roll Circus: with a breath of fresh air and exoticism, a tiki bar: Le Dirty Dick... Okay, I know... DIRTY DICK! For the record, the Dirty Dick is the former name of the hostess bar, which they took over to create their cocktail bar, and then I remember with nostalgia the ufo cocktails that Scott had already christened... Strawberry Slut or Part-time ProstituteIn retrospect, Dirty Dick doesn't really shock me all that much... I like the idea of young girls in good spirits saying "Hey girls, let's meet for a drink at Dirty Dick's? Kind of like a girl who wears a Claudine collar and has a big tattoo on her arm.... you know?
Dirty Dick is a tiki bar... Tiki? The tiki movement was a very popular trend in the 60s, and featured prominently in all the media of the Americas at the time. Indeed, at that time, Hawai became an American state, and Hawaiian shirts flooded the ready-to-wear market... give or take a few details. I see it as a way of life halfway between the old-fashioned romanticism of Palm String and the wild exoticism of Waikiki... And then, to top it all off, a few years later, the beach boys hit the airwaves, and you get the idea, well, imagine all this with a glass of Mai Tai in hand, and rum as religion, of course...
At Dirty Dick, Scott and his crack team welcome you in floral shirts and seashell necklaces, and that alone is a must... Scott has some sublime gustatory surprises in store for you, with an edifying cocktail menu featuring exotic names like Beachcomber, The cannibal's dilemma or Pain Killer... To be enjoyed in a Tiki glass, or shared with 14-meter straws in giant shell-shaped punch bowls or in a steaming volcano. A little extra that will win you over and is Scott's pride and joy: they prepare all the syrups and other cocktail additives themselves... His homemade orgeat syrup is incredible, and even has a little peanut aftertaste (I'm dying)... I think you'll have gathered by now that I'm under the spell and asking for more... In fact, I'm going there tonight to make up for my lack of sunshine!
And what would a portrait of good people be without my absolutely essential and profound questions... I confess that I had to reduce my list considerably... Because Scott is a mysterious man and doesn't give away his secrets like that... So no existential questions about spice girls or what's hidden in his handbag this time...
